Sun-Baked Delights: How Solar Power Fuels Sustainable Bagels at 29 Loaves

Every shop has its unique selling points. At 29 Loaves, our edge comes from sustainability: I use toaster ovens powered not by conventional grid electricity, but by solar panels on my roof. This not only leads to a negative monthly bill from ConEd but also makes our bagels and mini loaves the most sustainable choice around.

I’ve optimized every batch to make the most of the 1200 watts our ovens pull, allowing us to bake multiple items efficiently. Our mini loaves weigh in at 5 ounces with a serving size of 3 ounces, perfect for personal enjoyment or sharing. Our plump bagels are 3.9 ounces each—irresistible unless you have the willpower of a saint.

With a background in lean operations and a commitment to minimal viable products, I continuously innovate to see what unique, delicious foods I can create. Inspired by my New York City roots and the iconic NY-style bagel, 29 Loaves aims to bring that level of quality and freshness to the desert, appealing to both new arrivals and big brands. This approach not only honors the culinary traditions I grew up with but also respects and protects our new environment, promising a sustainable choice for our community and future generations.
