A Light in Joshua Tree
Today marked the inaugural run of 29 Loaves in a shared retail space, and it couldn’t have gone better. More than just selling out of a small batch of plain, everything, and salt bagels with pre-packaged cream cheese, today was about connection. Meeting the Joshua Tree community and visitors reminded me why I love this business so much.
It felt a little like working at JFK Airport—a crossroads where people from all over pass through. I met new locals, travelers, and even a few people from Australia. The conversations, the shared stories, and the sense of community made the day more than just a transaction.
I set up shop at The Shed, a space I share with Dillon, whose coffee collection and high-end paraphernalia are not just beautiful but also incredibly well-crafted. While I was there to sell bagels, I was also giving away coffee—because for me, this business isn’t just about food. It’s about creating an experience, a moment of comfort, a taste of something special.
The mission behind 29 Loaves has always been to bring flavors inspired by my most fond food experiences, and today was my twist on them.
There’s a line from Rumi that says, “The wound is where the light enters.” Today, in Joshua Tree, I felt that light enter.
Feeling grateful for this journey, for the people I meet along the way, and for the opportunity to share something I love.
This is what feeds my soul.
