Storage and Revival
How to Keep Your Bagels Fresh
-
Short-term (up to 3 days):
Keep your bagels in a sealed ziplock bag or a bread bag with a window at room temperature. Do not refrigerate — refrigeration dries them out faster. -
Long-term (more than 3 days):
If you know you won’t be eating them within 3 days, freeze them right away. They’ll stay fresh in the freezer for weeks.
How to Revive Bagels
If your bagels have gone a bit hard, don’t worry — they can be brought back to life easily:
-
Rehydrate:
- Run them under cold or warm water for about 1 minute, or
- Submerge them completely in water for the same amount of time.
-
Reheat:
- Option 1: Microwave for ~30 seconds to soften, then slice in half and toast in a toaster or toaster oven.
- Option 2: Skip the microwave and place directly into a toaster oven until warm and crisp.
(Tip: The microwave step is handy if you need to soften the bagel enough to slice it in half before toasting.)
